Open letter to President Trump

Today's ceremony, however, has very special meaning because today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people.

Mr. President,

That statement does sound promising and in that line of thought I want to make a few suggestions:

  1. Disband the Electoral College, let the people's votes count for real, across the whole nation;
  2. Make voter suppression illegal and punishable, let the power of the people be in every voter's hands;
  3. Make gerrymandering illegal and punishable, let the voters chose their candidates and not the candidates chose their voters;
  4. Appoint independent committees to revise the electoral map and make it reflect population densities and not party affiliations.
I want to request that you enact these, asap, as these are so much more important to return power to the people and confidence in your administration.

And while you are at it please:

  1. do NOT eliminate Obamacare and leave millions of people vulnerable and powerless;
  2. do NOT reduce Medicare benefits and make millions more helpless;
  3. do NOT reduce Social Security benefits thus taking away a valuable safety net for those who honestly contributed all their lives;
  4. do NOT cancel the reduction in the Federal Housing Administration’s annual fee for most borrowers.
Actually these last four items do remove power from the people and this goes absolutely counter to your commitment to the people.

Please make "we the people" look forward to the next four years and not just to the quick passing of the next four years.

Best regards,
